Rear Stub Axle

These can be damaged any time a rear wheel has a heavy impact with an “immovable” object (a curb for example), or if a rear wheel bearing seizes up. Rear alignment is not adjustable, so if it’s out-of-spec, then either the axle beam or stub axle is bent. The stub axle is a lot easier to replace than the beam!

Rear Wheel Hub and Bearing

Unlike earlier VW’s there is now a separate rear hub that the brake disc attaches to. The hub and bearing are only available as an assembly-the bearing is not available separately. If the rear bearing fails, inspect the stub axle (above) for scoring, and replace if necessary.

BRAKING SYSTEM

We’ve seen a lot of wear in the brake systems of newer VW’s ,especially the rear pads. The front pads don’t usually wear as rapidly as the rears, but they still wear quickly. If you hear grinding, inspect your parts immediately, before your damage the discs!
