STEERING & SUSPENSION

The front suspension on the ‘98 and later Passats is very unusual with four ”links” per side instead of conventional control arms. The grease in the ball joints of each of these links seems to dry out quickly, causing them to wear rapidly. If you hear rattling in the front end of your Passat when driving over bumps, then it’s probably time to replace one (or more) link.

Note: It’s always a good idea to replace the snubbers when you replace the shocks. An old snubber can allow the shock to bottom out, damaging internal parts of the shock absorber.

Wheel Bearings Kit

Front bearings are one-piece press in sealed bearing.(Hub is separate) Rear bearings come in kit form, with the hub already pressed in (except for the the Passat 4 motion). We sell top quality OEM bearings, not the cheap stuff that you’ll end up replacing again in 3,000 miles! (with clips and nut)

The rotors on Passats have a tendency to warp, so trying to turn them down is a pointless exercise--they’ll warp even quicker. If your discs are warped or heavily grooved, buy new ones.
