What could be left? The front end and suspension on Standard Beetles (NOT Super) needs little attention except periodic lubrication. The front ends of all models are very similar. There is an axle beam with torsion arms, a steering box that turns as the steering wheel, which transmits the action left and right through tie rods. The end support of the beam between the two bars can be replaced with a metal kit that is welded on. The other place where rust damage occurs is where the shock absorber bolts on to the beam The only solution is a new axle beam. If your beam rusts out, you can replace it yourself, and without special tools. The beam is bolted to the body, and once it is removed, you just put your old steering box. torsion bars and arms on the new beam . Beetle axles tend to rust out due to salt and corrosion. They rust from the inside so every one should install Zerk (Grease) fittings on the shock towers and keep the hollow part of the shock tower full of grease, and paint the outside every two years. If the Shock towers are rusted out between the two beams, our repair kit should solve the problem. It is two preformed plates to weld over each side. Order one kit for each side; two kits per car.
