Aluminum Replacement (when copper was originally installed) works fine. VW® went to all aluminum radiators after 1984! Even the Diesel Golf with Air Conditioning, Automatic Trans, etc., etc., came with aluminum radiators Note: All Radiators after 1983 were made of aluminum with plastic tanks This is OEM.
