Parts Place recommends that 98% of the people rebuilding a VW engine should install two NEW HEADS. Unless money is tight, or you’re very good, they are the best buy. Individual valves, guides, etc. are available. All pieces are OEM, first quality.

If you are building a first class engine, your best buy is a pair of new heads. Beetle type engines have the most problems in the head area. Many used heads have cracks between the valves and the spark plugs or between the valves themselves. These are brand new OEM heads, they should last 100,000 miles or more. New Dual Port Head 1600. Complete with valves, springs and guides ready to bolt on.
