Wheel Cylinders
New wheel cylinders include housing plunger, seals, springs and bleeder valve, assembled, of course. Wheel cylinders can be rebuilt. The dealers can order rebuilt kits for you if you force them to but since new cylinders cost only about $10, is it worth the trouble? Before you buy a rebuild kit make sure the bleeder valve is free. You would hate to buy a rebuild kit, rebuild the cylinder and then break the bleeder valve trying to bleed the system.

Dune Buggy Master Cylinder
The ideal Master cylinder for all dune Buggies has the brake fluid reservoir (purchased separately) mounted directly on the master cylinder.
No hoses or brackets are required. Caution this is not a dual braking system. This is the easiest to install when building a dune Buggy, or rail.

Master Cylinders
The master cylinder converts the foot pressure to even hydraulic pressure to the four wheels. They may fail in a number of different ways. 1.] Stick and not return. 2.] Leak out the back, (you'll notice a drop in brake fluid level) and 3.] The hardest to find an internal by-pass of fluid around the seals with no outside leaks.

Steel Brake Lines
If you are restoring a car on a budget or just trying to get "one more year" out of it, you should inspect the main brake lines at least annually. It runs inside the car along the driver's side of the tunnel. The trouble is it runs too low and accumulates salt and water around the gas pedal and elsewhere and corrodes the line. Check it every year or replace all the lines. Many Beetle owners run the main line a few inches up on the tunnel to avoid the problem. New lines come in 6, 12, 20, 30, 40 and 84 inch lengths.
All our lines are the same; a flared pipe with two metric ends. When you bend them, use a tomato juice can to avoid kinks and get even bends - it works.

Seals & Bearings
If you have your drums off you should inspect and repack or replace the bearings. The inner seals should be replaced anytime the drum is removed. We stock bearings for all Volkswagens: front or rear, inside or outside. We stock new bearings front or rear: washers, nuts and cotter pins also available. (Bearings fit either side. No left or right). FAG or RBI approved brand bearings. Replace all the bearings and seals at the same time. A complete kit includes 2 each inner bearings, outer bearings, seals & 2 cotter pins.
