Carburetor Kits

Rebuild It Yourself

There are a couple of things to do to make your carb. rebuilding successful. After dismantling the carb. SOAK  the body  in a cleaning solvent and then blow and clean with compressed air. Otherwise you are wasting your time and money because all of those little fuel passages must be clean. Taking the new kit and putting the carb back together won’t solve your problem otherwise.

Rebuilding a carburetor without installing or replacing an inline fuel filter (between the fuel pump and the carb) is FUELISHNESS! Any VW used only in the summer should also have an inline fuel filter to collect winter fuel tank crud.

Carb-Idle Cut-Off Jet

It’s an electromagnetic device that VW has used since they went to the electric choke on the carburetor. Its use is to complete the idling circuit in the carburetor and to prevent the car from dieseling after you’ve shut the car off. If you turn the ignition on and push and pull the wire off the idle cut off jet, you will hear the gizmo clicking back and forth. If it does not, it’s not working! Specify year, make, model.

Clutch Alignment Tool

Aligning the clutch before you bolt the pressure plate up tight will save you countless guess and try again.  I personally have wasted two hours trying to align a clutch with a broomstick because I didn't have this simple tool.

Pedal Assemblies

The brake, clutch and gas pedal assemblies of all Beetles, Type III,  and Things and IV are the same. Water, snow and road salt accumulate around pedal assemblies and they fail.  The early one, used up to 1965 is just no good.  The gas pedal assembly is attached by means of a Z bar.  The Z bar gets twisted sideways and then you can never repair it.  Later model assemblies oxidizes and the gas pedal falls off. The solution? Replace the entire assembly.  Parts Place has purchased 50 used assemblies from the Southwest which are corrosion free.  You get all three pedals and the assembly. They are beautiful.
