GLASS
We always thought someone could make a living selling used side and Back Glass for VWs. We have a special section of shelves approximately 20 feet long filled with almost every conceivable piece of glass used in various year Volkswagens.
WE COUNTED THEM the other day and we had 714 pieces.
Some of the dealer prices on glass are astronomical and generally our prices will save you 60%. Installing back and side glass is not difficult and generally requires only a Phillips screwdriver and a 10mm wrench to install side door glass. You generally remove the inner door panel and you will see the window roll-up mechanism, it's almost always held in with 10mm bolts. Undo these bolts and move the regulator (window winder) and the glass, in most cases it will come out through the inside of the door. Vent glass generally comes out through the top of the door and in some cases you have to remove or loosen the main door glass to remove the vent glass.
Back glass and fixed rear window side glasses are generally held in place with just a gasket. You won't believe this but at the PartsPlace we remove them by lying on our back inside the car and kicking them out. They sometimes fly across the room 50 feet and bounce a couple times and very rarely break. Don't do it this way, if you kick them out have someone wrap the outside of the glass with a towel and hold the glass to catch it when it comes out. When installing fixed rear and back glass use the same procedure as we described for installing the windshield, i.e. the clothesline method.
When ordering glass, specify exactly the piece of glass you want. Give year, make and model, left or right side, and describe vent glass, back glass, etc. Also state clear and tinted and if the frame is required.

Windshield Gaskets
Windshield gaskets are generally reusable if they are relatively new. The older they get the more brittle and sun-cracked they become. Our gaskets are made of the finest quality synthetic material, fit perfectly and are equal to original design.

Window Gasket Kits
These 4 piece window gasket kits include the windshield, 2 rear quarter windows and the back window. These kits are what's called the American look, they have no provision (no groove) for the chrome strip. Most people do not replace the chrome in the window gaskets because it looks better without it. Sedan only (not convertible). Call for info. on convertibles
