[11] The Thermo Switch has a timer and bi-metallic element. It is heated by the engine water and depending upon how hot it is, it allows electricity  to flow from 2 to 20 seconds to open the cold start valve. It should time out; jumper it to check the system. Replace if defective. Our recycled thermo switches work perfect.

[12] Warm-up  Regulator

This acts like a choke. It makes the car run richer, it picks up heat from the block and from an internal bi-metallic heater. What it does is apply fuel pressure to the top of the fuel distributor pin, pushing it down, making it run rich. If the car starts, but  runs poor until it warms up, it could be this.

[8] Air Flow Meter - We have good used meters (they measure the amount of air coming into engine so the brain can calculate the correct amount of fuel to use) Bosch currently lists over 25 different part numbers - Call us with yours - SAVE $$$

[9] Relay-Fuel Pump

These relays supply electricidad to your fuel pump or pumps. This little device will keep you from starting if it malfunctions. We have new and recycled from $15.00 ea. Get the part number off the relay so we’re sure we get you the right one!

[10] Cold Start Valve

sometimes called the 5th injector. This thing sprays a squirt of gas 2 to 20 seconds to get the car to kick over and start. (The gas does not go through the fuel distributor, so sometimes the car will start and run for 5 or 10 seconds, then start again and again and again, but won't run for more than 20 seconds.) It's running on gas from the 5th injector. Your problem is that the fuel distributor  is clogged. The cold start valve has constant fuel under pressure, and the electric wire from the thermo time switch is  just telling it to fire. If you put 12 volts to the cold start valve and it does not fire, and you have fuel pressure, replace it.

[13] Auxiliary Air Valve

works like keeping your foot on the "gas" to let it warm up. When you step on the "gas" you are actually stepping on the air. The accelerator  cable only opens the air valves (throttle valves) so pumping the "gas" before you turn over the car does nothing but give you exercise.

To make the car race with your foot off the "gas" you have to give it some air. The Auxiliary Air Valve is just a "U" -shaped hose around the throttle valves.  To give it extra air VW® put a rotary valve in the line that times out and closes after the car warms up so it won't race. Simple!

They clog with junk and burn out - our recycled ones are the best value.

Idle Air Stabilizer Valve

is used to control idle speed on later models (most ‘88 on) VW’s and CIS-E/Motronic systems. If your idle “hunts” up and down, your idle or stabilizer is probably bad. We have new and recycled units available.

Differential Pressure Regulator

is found on ‘85-93 VWs with CIS-E or CIS-Motronic injection. This electromagnetic device makes small adjustments to the fuel mixture by altering pressure to the lower half of the fuel distributor. Using signals form the O2 sensor, coolant temp sensor(s) and a few other sensors, the F. I. brain tells the differential pressure regulator to enrich or lean out the fuel mixture. If yours is bad, the car will run roughly or may not run at all. Test it using the procedure in the Bentley Manual.

#SN35625 ‘85-89 (CIS-E)  $65.00

#SN36868 ‘90-93 (CIS-Motronic) $100.00

[14] The Throttle Plate

These flappers are simple open - close devices - if they get sticky try cleaning area with Gum-out! Later throttle bodies incorporate an electronic throttle position sensor. Sometimes these go bad. Call us - we’ve got good recycled throttle bodies in stock.

[15] The Oxygen Sensor

or as it’s more uncommonly known - the Lambda Sensor, sniffs the oxygen content in the exhaust gas and signals the fuel injection to enrich or lean depending on the situation.  These devices do require periodic replacement (usually every 30,000 miles) we stock a wide variety for all VWs.

From $49.95 each.

[16] The Frequency Valve is a little pump to enrich the fuel/air mixture. It is only found on cars from 1981-on.

The Valve works in conjunction with the Oxygen Sensor and adjusts the amount of fuel.
