Oil Pressure Problem?

High Volume

Oil Pump

The original gears for a ‘75-84 car had 27mm gears. The pump #SN1297 has 30mm gears (an increase of approx. 12%, which is a lot!!). These 30mm pumps were used in all cars from ‘85-92. They are an upgrade for pre-‘84 engines.

In 1993, a 36mm pump came out (#SN12825), which has about 20% more than the stock ‘85-92, and approx. 35% than the pre-‘85. The #SN12825 will bolt up to all pre-‘93 engines.

These high performance oil pumps have extended gears for increased oil volume and pressure. A high volume pump can move a higher volume of oil.  A must for all racing applications! These pumps will bolt into any Rabbit, Scirocco, Jetta or Golf from ‘75-92.

All ‘85-92 engines come with this pump #1297 already installed. It’s the standard replacement part for them, because starting in ‘85 the engines were equipped with hydraulic lifters which require additional oil pump capacity. This pump can be a solution to some worn engines. If the engine is worn, the additional pressure and volume of oil can extend the life of the engine.

High-Volume for Rabbit/Jetta ‘80-84, Scirocco ‘75-84, 4" Shaft (Gas only)

#1297. . . . . . . . .$119.95

Extra-long bolts to install any of these pumps into older engines (pre-’84), 2 bolts needed.

Super High-Volume Pump

Originally used in VW 8V 2.0 liter engines, these have 36mm gears and have up to 35% more flow rate of oil. Remember, it’s oil volume not pressure that keeps the metal surfaces apart and your engine running 200,000+ miles.

#12825. . . . . . . . .$99.95

The above info. is for gas cars! For diesels, use #SN1300. It’s super-high volume with 36mm gears.  All VW diesel Rabbit, Jetta, Golf ‘79-92 with power brakes, 36mm (stock on 86-1/2 & up hydraulic diesel engines).

SHORTBLOCKS

GAS/DIESEL

TENSIONER PULLEY

If your timing belt tensioner pulley has a bad bearing or is bent, it will fail, if it fails your timing belt will have trouble and if you jump time, your pistons may come up while the valves are open - whoops! Major damage will occur - be smart - inspect regularly. The replacement is not expensive, major engine work is! All gas 4-cyl. engines with 8 valves.

Timing Belts

These pictures show what  happens to a diesel engine, specifically a piston when the timing belt either stretches or breaks and the piston hits the valve. If you remember a fellow named Newton, he stated a law that two objects cannot occupy the same space at the same time. This piston and valve proved him right again. Generally when the piston hits the valve, unless the engine is barely idling, a replacement engine is the cheapest correction. If the engine is running at speed, the valve will poke a hole in the piston and concurrently the piston will drive the valve upward bending the valve stem pulling the guide out, egg-shaping the cam puck, breaking the cam, and the cam caps, other than this your engine will be perfect. The Volkswagen service recommendation for diesel timing belts is something in the order of inspect the belt every 30,000 miles and adjust. The only problem with this is unless the belt is ready to break in the next 5 minutes, it's impossible to tell the difference between a defective belt and a new belt. Any broken fibers or stretch cannot be seen. A new timing belt from the Parts Place costs $21.95, a new engine installed at a dealership costs around $3,500.00.  You can buy a lot of timing belts for the difference. Warning: when installing a timing belt, be careful and do it correctly.

Change timing belts every 60,000 miles or see what can happen...
