REAR BRAKE DRUM

All Rabbit, Scirocco, Jetta, & Golf Sedans made between ‘75 and ‘88 with drum brakes use the same drum. (Some high performance GTI & GLI use discs.  It fits either side. (Wagons-P.U.,and G/J ‘89-92 used a similar but bigger drum). Rear brakes get little use, drums can last 100,000 miles. This means we have excellent recycled drums. If your drums are worn or scratched, replace them!

Our recycled rear drums are guaranteed useable and in 99% of the cases can be used without any turning; just use very rough sandpaper to rough up the surface to remove any glaze.

POWER BRAKE SERVO

A vacuum tank on the master cylinder uses vacuum from the engine to assist your foot pressure to stop the car. The servo tank can leak and must be replaced since it cannot be repaired. The check valve in the line can stick, or in the case of a diesel the vacuum pump which draws the vacuum can be defective. When the vacuum system goes bad the car will still stop but it requires much more foot pressure to stop the car.  When the master cylinder alone goes bad, the pedal is soft or spongy or sinks slowly under foot pressure.

Recycled Brake Servos are available for all cars. Specify year, make, model, engine. Prices generally run $75, a few run higher.

REBUILD KITS

The diaphragms in these vacuum pumps rupture and leak making it so you have to press the brake pedal very hard to get the car to stop. Our rebuild kit includes a new diaphragm, seals, etc. The fix is only about a 15 minute job.
