TRANSMISSIONS

NEW, REMANUFACTURED & USED

“Replacing the trans with a good used trans is 99% of the time the best solution to transmission problems"

It's Not Complicated! There’s no aligning it, just bolt & unbolt!

Any gas station can R&R a transmission (say that to your mechanic and he'll think you know what you're talking about. It's mechanic's slang for remove and replace). It's not a very big or involved process; removing and replacing a bad transmission with a good used one should cost about $150 to $200. Any VW from Beetle to Golf (Beetles and Rabbits should be a little cheaper, Vanagons maybe a bit more expensive).

You are helpless then. Get a firm quote, then call us!! You don't have to pay high transmission shop prices!!!

Got A Transmission Problem? Give Us a Call!

We could list all the transmissions available with prices, but there is not enough space. Generally, the most common transmission costs are listed on this page.

Golf/Jetta/Fox

Priced from $400 -- Call

Rabbits from $150 -- Call

Get a second opinion!

Call us — we may not be 100% right in our over–the–phone diagnosis, but  we'll give you some alternatives.

Say you have a ‘79 Jetta you could escape from your transmission woes approximately for $300 - $150 for labor, $150 for a transmission from Parts Place. Believe me, no one can fix anything on a transmission for $150; it will always cost more.

If it’s an automatic many times you can replace only half of a trans-axle assembly, either the final drive or transmission itself, and reduce your cost. Generally if you have a problem in one or two of the gears, i.e. first, second, third, or reverse, but at least one gear works perfectly, then your final drive is okay.  If you have rumbling in all of your gears, or if nothing works, it most likely is the final drive.

We have complete automatic trans-axle assemblies or separate final drives and transmissions. Our stock of all transmissions as of the date of this writing is 871 units; more VW transmissions than, we bet, any other place in the midwest. We would like to list some of them below but instead of going through the list, why don't you JUST CALL, and we can give you a price.

Some transmissions can be shipped UPS while others require truck shipment.

New Transmissions

Did your automatic transmission in your “NEW” Golf/Jetta/New Beetle fail? These transmissions go bad and the Ring & Pinion get destroyed and then destroys other stuff. We have NEW, not rebuilt!

BAD CLUTCH?

If you need a clutch just call us. It's simple we'll send you the right parts, and the tools, too!

To replace the clutch, yes you have to remove the transmission; but it is not that difficult. To remove the transmission, support the engine on a milk crate, unbolt the C.V. joints, pull the clip from the clutch cable loosening it, then you have just 6 bolts holding the transmission to the engine. Remove the bolts and the transmission comes off the engine.

Simple? The clutch is now exposed, it's on the back of the engine. It comes off with another 6 bolts. Replace the parts, use our plastic clutch tool which guarantees alignment, replace the 6 clutch bolts, then put it back together. NO SWEAT! This takes a mechanic 2 hours, a shade-tree mechanic and his buddy 4 hours, with time out for lunch!

We have clutch pressure plates, discs and throw out bearings for all VWs.  We list only a few. Call giving year, model, engine size, gas or diesel and we'll have the right part for you.

CLUTCH CABLES AND KIT

After 5 years or 75,000 miles, replacing the clutch cable during any transmission repair makes sense. Inspect it carefully, in any case.
