(10)-  Water Pumps

The Volkswagen water pump lasts a long time. Don’t over tighten the alternator belt as the added tension creates a burden on the water pump’s bearings.

If water is dripping out the hole in the bottom of the pump, it is bad. Replace the pump. No rebuild kits are available for water pumps.

BELT KITS

Belts don’t last forever. Every 60,000 or so(or whenever you buy a used car and don’t know it’s maintenance history)or when one of your Belts is about to go.  “Maybe” some of the others may last up to 80, 90, or even 120,000 miles, but you don’t know.  You almost cannot tell unless it’s about to grenade! The Book’s say “inspect the Belts”, “How”?  I say pick your number, 60,000-70,000, but pick it and replace everything. See our Belt kits.
