Do-it-Yourself Tip
A bad VW secondary air pump will show you DTCs. The cheapest and easiest way to find out what codes are appearing under your check engine light is to scan them yourself with the VAG-COM cable. After you find out what codes are showing up in your engine you can refer to the Bentley manual to find out what steps you need to fix your Volkswagen.
