Vanagon Exhaust systems are very complicated. Replacing the stock system from the heat exchangers out, can cost over $1,800.  We have some options for you. These options replace the factory muffler with a muffler and/or exhaust system that does the job and costs a lot less. (These systems may alter things so they are sold for “off the road uses which will never be used on the highway”)

Vanagon ‘79 1/2 thru 83

We have 2 low cost solutions for the Vanagon. The first uses a “High Performance Replacement Muffler for Vanagon”. The 2nd uses a “Stock in Europe” design muffler. These mufflers bolt right on the heat exchangers and replaces hundreds of dollars worth of pipes, cross-over pipes, etc., used on the Vanagon air-cooled engine.

The Engine Compartment Seal

is important to cooling and long engine life.  It seals between the engine and the engine compartment.  It keeps the engine from sucking the hot air up over your muffler and then trying to cool the engine with this heated air. Vanagon (All) Economical (This was OEM on early factory models. It works fine).

Wasserboxer Exhaust

   The American Medical Association gave a $10,000 award for “Business Development” to the engineer who designed the exhaust system for Vanagon Wasserboxers.

   It seems that 1,371 people had bad heart attacks amounting to $7,681,321 in “revenue to the health care industry”, heart attacks caused after being told that a new exhaust system for their 22-year old Vanagon would cost more than $2,000.

  Call Us First!  Save $75,000 in medical bills plus $1,000 your exhaust.

   No Kidding!  The exhaust pipes on your Vanagon are expensive. Each vehicle basically has 3 pipes plus a catalytic converter, a muffler and an exhaust pipe.

   The front, back pipes and connector pipes are approximately  $250 each at the dealer (prices varies by model and pipe).

   The catalytic converter $850, the mufflers $350 and the tail pipes $35, throw in $50 for hardware and $250 for labor you’ve got close to $2,000.

   Our engine pipes are either made in Europe or are OEM-VW. Our mufflers are either ANZA or BOSAL. They are excellent quality at significantly lower prices. Our catalytic converters are USA made, which fit directly and carry a manufactures 5 year/50,000 mile limited warrantee.

   The installation is simple, it’s all nuts & bolts. There are no slip fits.  Installation of an entire system should take an average back yard mechanic 2 to 3 hours with time out for a coffee.  If you’ve ever done a Beetle or an American car exhaust this is 1/4 the work!
