OIL BAFFLE

ATTENTION ALL VW OWNERS!

This oil baffle is a must for all diesel and gas owners. This cam cover fits on top of the cam and returns the oil splash into the engine faster.

This baffle keeps the valve cover from getting washed with oil and allows the oil breather vent to breath clear air. This results in the engine burning less oil and the air filter does not become laden with oil. This baffle was originally developed by VW for racing but has become a great preventative measure in all VWs

One of the most popular applications has been in older worn out diesels. These cars with bad rings tend to run away (accelerate on their own). The cars run away because excessive oil is picked up and drawn into the air cleaner. The engine then burns this oil instead of diesel fuel. If you have a diesel with more than 75,000 miles on it you should install one as a safety precaution.

If your car has never run away, this should* prevent it from occurring, if it has, this should* reduce the chances of it happening again. This baffle returns the extra oil to the crank case to be recirculated Stock on all 85-up engines. Try one!

BOSCH DIESEL GLOW PLUGS

We sell Bosch Glow plugs. They are great and last a long time! Test by Bentley instructions or remove, hold in vice-grips, then power directly off battery (12 volts). They glow red hot in 7-12 seconds, they are O.K. if not—replace. (Also check the line fuse.) They are either SLOW or FAST glow. Don’t mix fast and slow glow plugs or relays.  Brands don’t matter as long as fast is used with fast.

BURNED GLOW PLUG TIPS:

On some VW diesel engines you may see that the tips of the glow plugs are actually burned away. When you find this condition inspect the injectors in the affected cylinders for dripping. If cleaning doesn’t correct the problem—replace the injector!

ENGINE BLOCK HEATERS

Diesels, particularly when they get high miles on them, may become hard starting in cold weather, the cheap solution for this is a block heater. The heater goes in a freeze plug hole on the block. In operation you plug the heater into an extension cord and it keeps the engine “spring time” warm. If the engine will start in the late spring or fall, it will start in the winter with a block heater. It’s cheaper than rebuilding the engine!

Up to now, Block Heaters have been thought of as for hard starting diesel engines only. Well VW and other car manufacturers are recommending them for all engines. The heat helps start the engine and gets the OIL FLOWING fast to minimize the start-up wear.

The same unit installs in gas or diesel engines. Besides, your car can be warm and you’ll be able to see out your windows right away!

This engine heater fits all water cooled VWs but helps diesels start in any temperature. After installing a block heater refill the block with anti freeze by removing the top radiator hose and refill the block and head. After this is done, fill the radiator. Run engine until warm then check the level again.

You don’t want trouble with overheating caused by air pockets being trapped in the cooling system! (Also works on early TDI).
