Diesel Injectors

A Diesel Engineer said the most common reasons VW diesels don't start is bad injectors. Diesel injectors spray a cone-shaped spray into the pre-burn chamber of your diesel. When they get old, the area around the spray tip erodes and a crater forms. Then they spray funny and leak on the glow plug after you shut off the engine. This is a cause for hard starting, it may be time for a replacement.

IMPORTANT: Anytime an injector is removed you must replace the special washer or “HEAT SHIELD” under it. Make sure you install it correct side up or you will burn out your head in 5,000 miles.!

1. Stop Solenoid. This “Off/On switch” controls flow of fuel. If it fails while you’re driving, your car will either:

A. Stay running when you turn off the key, or

B. Stop running and not restart (this is worse, especially if it’s 11:00 at night, snowing heavily and you’re 13 miles from the nearest town. Don’t ask how I know this...)

Be prepared and carry a spare in your glove box, it only takes 2 minutes to replace this.

2. The Seal in the front of the pump wears out and the pump “loses prime” overnight and makes it hard to start. This seal is delicate but replaceable with patience. It solves many hard start problems.

Pump seal for Biodiesel--There are a lot of injection pump seals failing on older pumps because of the different properties of biodiesel and biodiesel blend fuels.  We now sell a Viton front pump seal which is designed to work with biodiesel.  If you run biodiesel in your car, this seal is a must!

VW® says that gasket sealer is unnecessary. They also say that diesel head gaskets don't leak. We recommend a special Universal Jointing compound, particularly on diesels. It is made under license from Rolls Royce. (Use very thin)

If you're on a budget, save money on plastic hubcaps instead of the real thing, but if you have a diesel, you MUST INSIST on a GERMAN Head gasket! We sell only GOATSE or ELRING brand. We sell less expensive head gaskets for gas cars, made in Brazil, but NEVER for a diesel! One advantage of dealing with us, is that we know how to save you money, and when not to, too!

Our Head gaskets are OEM and about $20 off dealer prices.

Diesel head gaskets come in different thicknesses indicated by the number of notches compensate for the difference in how far the diesel pistons project above the block.
