“Super Special” Semi-Synthetic Motor Oil for TDI Engines meets VW standard 505.1 for all TDI’s. TDI’s(and especially the ‘03 and later Pumpe-Duse TDI’s) require special semi-synthetic oil.  VW says you must use it or lose your warranty coverage.  Earlier TDI’s have to use “505.00” oil, later TDI’s use “505.01”.  We carry both.  Save your receipts so you can prove to VW that you used the right oil if a warranty problem occurs.  Sold in 1 liter bottles.

OIL FILTERS TDI

We sell only top-quality Mann and Mahle oil filters, made in Germany or Austria.  Don’t try to cut corners saving a couple bucks buying junk filters.  These are the best!

AIR FILTERS

Air filters take the dirt out of the air! Elementary! If you’re only going to keep your car until it reaches 50,000

miles, don’t even bother changing it, but if you want to be a member of the 100, 200 or 300,000 mile club, read on!

Aside from the visible dirt, leaves, sand and dust you can see blowing in the wind, there’s dirt in the air. Unless you

filter the air, the dirt gets into your engine.

Your VW “drinks” about a quart of air/per cylinder/per revolution or 2,500 gallons per minute at 5,000 rpm. If the air cycling through your car has

.000001% of dirt in it, that’s a cup of dirt per year going into your engine.

Would you throw a cup of dirt into the engine of your car?

The dirt gets between your piston rings and the walls, wears them out, and there goes your compression. First quality air filters can add 100,000 miles between re-ringing, not to mention that some dirt gets by the rings and ends up in the oil and then in the bearings. We sell OEM Mann & MAHLE– we don’t sell junk!

BELT KITS

Belts drive everything-A/C compressor, alternator, water pump, and power steering.  Break a belt and you’re stranded, or worse-overheated.  It doesn’t take more than a couple of minutes of driving with a broken belt for the engine to get really hot, and cause expensive damage.  If you don’t know when the belts were last changed, do it today!

TIMING BELT KITS

Timing belts are a known problem if you don’t replace them as often as you should. We have sold more replacement TDI engines because of broken timing belts than all the other reasons combined!  VW says change the timing belt every 60,000 miles(every 90,000 for the heavy-duty belt).  We have customers with over 500,000 miles on their TDI’s who have never had to perform any service on the engine other than routine maintenance-but they do the maintenance religiously! It’s a lot cheaper than buying a new engine.

Our timing belt kits come with everything you should replace when changing the timing belt, including all the rollers, the tensioner pulley and water pump.  Do the job right the first time!

FUEL FILTERS

Most people don’t think about changing their fuel filter as often as they should.  TDI’s operate at almost twice the fuel pressure of earlier diesels.  Any dirt that gets past the filter is going to do more damage to the injectors. (Plus, TDI injectors cost a good deal more than earlier diesels.) A little preventative maintenance here can save money down the road.

‘89-’99  #SN1452 . . . . . $26.95

FUEL CONDITIONER

With the new low-sulfur fuel now at

most, if not all stations, it is even

more critical to run fuel conditioner

in your diesel VW.  The ‘06 and later

diesels are designed to run on the

low-sulfur fuel.  Earlier cars are not,

and they rely on the sulfur as a

lubricant for the injection pump.

Low sulfur = less lubrication = injection pumps that wear out quickly.  Our fuel conditioner helps lubricate the pump and reduces fuel gelling in cold weather.  Cheap insurance for your diesel VW.

GLOW PLUGS

The glow plugs in TDIs don’t even

heat up unless it’s less than 40

degrees fahrenheit outside, so if

you’re having cold start problems

and it’s above 40 degrees, your

problem is elsewhere.  If it’s under

40 degrees, check your glow plugs.  We sell Bosch and Iskra glow plugs, both are top quality OEM suppliers for Volkswagen.

#SN19392  Bosch . . . . . . . . .$99.95/set of 4

WATER PUMP

Keep your TDI running cool with a new water pump.  If you’re changing a timing belt on a later(‘99.5-’05) TDI, you should always replace the pump too- it’s driven by the timing belt and could break the belt if it seizes, causing far worse damage.

THERMOSTAT

TDI’s are really thermally efficient, so it’s unlikely that they’ll overheat unless the thermostat doesn’t open, the water pump fails or the radiator is blocked.  On the other hand, if the thermostat never closes, the engine will never warm up fully.  If your TDI runs too cool, this is probably what’s going on.
