189F Thermostat

Thermostat: 87°C = 189°F for Gas 74-99, Diesel 77-96

87°C thermostat. The thermostat controls the flow of water through the engine and heater. The thermostat opens at the predetermined temperature. These come in two temperatures 80°C (176°F) and 87°C (189°F). Use the 80°C if you tend to have overheating problems, the 87°C is the OE part.

Do-it-Yourself Tip

While your working on your cooling system, make sure you replace your coolant with a coolant that meets all VW requirements. Blue coolant (part # 18727) for all VWs prior to 97, or purple coolant (part # 18726) for VWs 98 on. In addition, don't forget about replacing your hoses with one of our hose kit.
