Wheel Cylinder: Type III 66-73, Type IV 70-74 - Rear

VW Type III rear wheel cylinder. Wheel cylinders are the simple hydraulic devices to push the brake shoes against the inside of the drum. They are easy to replace and should be carefully inspected for signs of leakage or corrosion any time you are working on your brakes. Fits both driver and passenger side.

If your Type III or Type IV wheel cylinders have been leaking you should replace the brake drums and shoes at the same time. Brake fluid will coat the braking surfaces and create a glaze that makes the brake drum and shoe ineffective at stopping your VW Type III or Type IV.
