VW 1.8T timing chain tensioner. The timing chain tensioner keeps tension on the cam timing chain in the cylinder head. If the timing chain jumps and shifts the cam timing, catastrophic damage will happen to your engine.

Do-it-Yourself Tip

Replacing the timing chain tensioner on your 1.8T will require you to set the timing on the cams and engine crank. While you have access to your timing belt, inspect it for cracks or dry rotting. If you need a new timing belt now we have complete timing belt kits to do the job like the dealer would or, or you can just replace the timing belt.
